Captain Stepan Nikolaevich stood at the helm, and his son Alexey, already an adult, eighteen-year-old person, watched the horizon. Alexey was as if expecting something important that was about to happen. The ship, slowly cutting through the waves of the Baltic, was heading to Helsinki. For Alexey, this voyage was the first real journey with his father. His soul was filled with unprecedented excitement. This was the moment when a person standing on the threshold of adulthood suddenly feels how big this world is. Helsinki, with its sea air and majestic buildings, seemed to Alexey’s eyes to be the beginning of a long journey.
But Helsinki was behind them, and with it an inconspicuous stop on the way to Tampere, where they visited a museum dedicated to V. I. Lenin. The captain had said more than once that the most important thing in a journey was not only to see the world, but also to understand it. Alexey listened attentively to his father’s stories about the revolutionary events of the past, and it was a kind of lesson on the shores of Finland, where history met modernity.
After some time, when the ship reached the Azores, Stepan Nikolaevich and Alexey noticed how quickly the horizons were changing. The Azores greeted them with calm. They spent the day stocking up on food supplies that might be needed on the further journey.
After that, the route took them to Fercacdo Po Island, where they arrived to study the local fauna and film a documentary. Once on this exotic island, father and son saw something that left a deep mark on their hearts. Then, at Cape Agulhas, due to a steering malfunction, the ship lost course for a while, but thanks to the experienced hands of the captain, everything was restored, and the journey continued.
Beirut was the next stop on the journey. The ship delivered vital medical supplies. Alexey was impressed by how important this moment was for people living in such a difficult and troubled area. This was not just a journey – it was a real service.
Day after day passed, and then danger appeared on the horizon. The approaching cyclone forced the captain to speed up the movement, but despite the storm, Stepan Nikolaevich, as an experienced sailor, did not lose his composure. This was an important lesson for Alexey – to learn to accept risks and not to give up in the most difficult situations.
And here they are on the island of Ceylon. The race to the volcano Krakatoa. Alexey felt like he was growing up next to his father. This island became a symbol of change, like the captain’s path itself. And although the storm was cruel, they did not give up. It seemed to Alexey that this volcano was a metaphor for his own experiences when he stood on the threshold of his adult life.
The sky was darkening when their ship was caught in a hurricane. The vessel drifted towards Amsterdam Island. It was here, amidst the raging waves, that Alexey realized the importance of loyalty to his cause. It was a test not only for the ship, but also for his relationship with his father. Stepan Nikolaevich demonstrated the highest professionalism, and soon the storm receded.
The following routes took them to the Celebes Islands, Australia, Darwin. Here Alexey and his father studied the life of the aborigines, and the captain told his son about the secrets of the world that are accessible only to those who are ready to travel. These countries were far from their native land, but each step in a foreign land opened up new horizons for their internal growth.
Hawaii and Easter Island became especially important for Alexey. In Hawaii, he helped prepare equipment for research into the equatorial current. On Easter, he admired the ancient monuments, and his thoughts increasingly led him to the idea that marine life is not only about travel, but also a constant desire to discover something new.
Suddenly, while they were rescuing Peruvian fishermen, Alexey realized that it was time to make a decision. He wanted to be a captain too. But the journey was not yet over.
The route was coming to an end, and, having found themselves in London, at the Greenwich Observatory, the captain and his son were checking astronomical instruments. It seemed that this entire journey was just preparation for Alexei to truly understand who he wanted to become.
In London, standing before the great scientists and watching the stars guide the ship, Alexei told his father that he had made up his mind. He would enroll in the naval academy to continue the path his father had begun.
For Stepan Nikolaevich, this was the greatest happiness – his son now wanted to become a captain too. Together they had experienced many adventures, and although the journey was coming to an end, for Alexey it was just beginning. The dream of the sea and travel still burned in his heart.
That’s how this red route ended. The path was full of trials, discoveries and decisions. The captain and his son returned home, but their life was different now. Stepan Nikolaevich knew that his son was now ready to follow this path. And Alexey could not wait to go to sea again.
