Wind Dice

Wind dice

If you buy the board game “Across the Seas and Oceans” in our store, we must warn you that some things will differ from the original game that you had as a child, namely:

  1. There will be no sailboats that players use.
  2. There will be no wind dice to determine the direction and strength of the wind.
  3. There will be no beautiful box with a cabin boy.

With the box, I think everything is clear, considering that you are buying a restored game, not an original one. Instead of four sailboats, you will receive four chips, so you will have something to go with. And I would like to talk in more detail about the wind cube.

What to do without a wind dice?

The problem with the wind dice can be solved in three ways:

  1. Make your own dice.
  2. Use cards rather than dices.
  3. Play without dice.

As you can see, a solution to the problem can always be found, and now I will tell you everything in detail.

How to make a wind dice yourself?

The wind dice should have six faces with special signs and corresponding symbols:

  1. W (west) – the wind blows from the West.
  2. E (east) – the wind blows from the East.
  3. N (north) – the wind blows from the North.
  4. S (south) – the wind blows from the South.
  5. Ш – calm, which means there is no wind at all.
  6. T – storm, which means the ship cannot remain at sea and must urgently leave for the nearest port.

To make such a dice, you can use a regular six-sided dice and stick special signs on it. By the way, you can order a six-sided dice in our store along with the game. When you place an order, ask the manager to allocate you an additional dice or write about your desire to order an additional dice in the comments to the order.

If you can’t make such a special dice, you can use cards.

How to make wind cards?

Make six cards with the above inscriptions and before each move, draw one of the cards randomly. Let’s say, put the cards face down on the table, shuffle the cards before moving and then choose any one. This way the player knows which way the wind is blowing.

If you cannot make either a cube or cards, then even in this case there is a solution.

How to play without wind?

Why do you need a wind dice at all? The wind dice is needed to adjust the number of moves the player makes. When you read the rules of the game that come with the kit, you will understand what kind of adjustment to the number of moves, adjusted for the wind, that I am talking about now.

However, I will remind you:

  • If the dice shows Calm, this means that there is no wind at all, so the sailboat on which the player makes his journey cannot move, which means the player misses his turn.
  • If a Storm occurs, the player must escort his sailing ship to the nearest port to avoid unpleasant consequences.
  • If there is a fair wind, the number of moves increases by 2 moves.
  • If the wind blows from the side, the number of moves increases by 1 additional move.
  • And if the wind blows directly into the sailboat’s bow, then the number of moves should be reduced by 2 moves. It seems so, unless I forgot the rules?

If you don’t have a wind dice, and you don’t want to make one, then you can play without taking the wind into account at all. You don’t need to skip a move, you don’t need to turn to the nearest port either, but you won’t have a tailwind either.

Conclusion

Be smart, because it is not yet possible to make such a wonderful wind dice, which was in the original set of the game “Across the Seas and Oceans”. In the meantime, return to the product page and complete your purchase of the game.
